I have been sketching and drawing for a long time and started to paint watercolors after that. My favorite subjects are boatscapes, landscapes and cityscapes, preferably in a somewhat impressionistic style. In my watercolors I try to catch the atmosphere of the place and the moment, you should be able to see what the weather was like. The atmosphere of the place is all about contrast, light and darks, and about color and value. But contrast comes first.

Painting is communication. It is an ongoing search to catch the essence of a place and to identify what is worth to observe. If possible I prefer to paint plein air, which is sometimes a challenge in Amsterdam, where I live.
